About the Author
Monika Mayr has dedicated her twenty-five year career to the National Park Service and is currently the Superintendent of Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi. Previous assignments include the Obed Wild and Scenic River in Tennessee, the National Capital Region in Washington, DC, and Biscayne National Park in Florida where she witnessed the Homestead Air Force Base saga firsthand.
Ms. Mayr was raised in the Virginia suburbs of Washington DC and graduated Magna cum Laude from Virginia Tech in 1983. In her private time, she enjoys walks with her dog, camping, boating and diving in Florida’s turquoise waters, traveling throughout this country and others, listening to a variety of music, and writing.
